Every so often we get asked if liquid polish is necessary to keep silver in tip-top shape.
We decided to ask our resident expert, Alex Biro, for his perspective.
“Silver looks good with a little oxidizing,” he says, “especially if it’s an older piece. So, don’t try to get rid of all the oxidation.”
The best way to keep silver looking its best, Alex adds, is to use a polishing cloth or gloves.
“Liquid silver polish gets in the details of more ornate pieces and ruins the whole look,” he says. “Just use the cloth until the piece develops a nice patina.”
That said, if you’ve already used a liquid polish to cut through some heavier oxidation and your piece looks gummed up, Alex suggests grabbing an old toothbrush to work the polish out.
